Favorite rom com of all time goes to this movie right here. I LOVE IT. I think the reason I love this movie so much is because it reminds me a whole lot of my family. They're loud and always up in your business but you love them anyways. The cinematography in this movie is nothing too special even though there are some really cute/ pretty scenes. I think my favorite one is either the bridge scene on their first date or the wedding reception scene where everyone is dancing and singing together. This movie may not be the most technical or mind bending or Oscar worthy but it makes you feel warm. Every one of the characters is lovable in the end which makes it that much better. The casting was perfect and the script is hilarious so no complaints there. The sets are GREAT. I love how even in the settings like the house are poking fun at the more old fashion families. I mean the plastic wrap on the couch is something thats just barley in the background and never even mentioned and its still hilarious. Also the whole windex joke with Gus no matter how many times they mention it is still funny! Especially the part when Ian hurts his hand and immediately Gus just starts spraying windex on it. I think thats another thing that makes this so great, its not even trying that hard to be funny it just kinda is. I love movies that really make you want to root for the main characters as-well and this movie really does a great job of that. They whole time you're rooting for Toula and Gus to just be happy and then they are. This film is just great and all of those reasons above is why its such a great rom com! Overall I give this movie an 8/10. Its the perfect rom com (ik I've said that like 500 times but its true) . I would recommend this to anyone who wants a cheer up type of movie.

this is my second time watching this movie, the first time I was a freshman and had never taken a film class before so I never really understood the value of a gorgeous movie. Back then I made the assumption that most people make about this movie "ew a girl who falls in love with a fish". Looking back after watching it a second time I'm almost sad that thats all I could think of when seeing it. I didn't see it in a deeper light but now I do. I could go on and on about how wonderful this movie is because oh my god its incredible. This film is now on my top 5 if not my favorite. The reason I watched it again was I told Jasmin to watch it for her midterm project. Going into it I really thought I was going to hate it again and so was she. NOPE. We both cried... multiple times. Let's start off with the cinematography. look at that picture above. tell me that isn't one of the most beautiful shots you've ever seen. I don't think I've ever had trouble choosing a still from a movie for my blog but with this I went through like 5 different options before landing on this. anyways this is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. The way its filmed is just so stunning and whimsical I cant even explain it. Going into the movie itself its so cute and sweet like the little dance sequence between her and her neighbor. It's the little happy moments that I think bring this movie together. I also love the usage of green throughout the movie and the music is incredible. Okay so when going to watch this movie think of it like beauty and the beast. It's pretty much the same thing except in the end (spoilers) she finds out her true self and turns into her true self through him (spoilers over). Now if you've seen it before and thought it was weird go watch it again with the perspective. Also I think Del toro is trying to show different kinds of love and how meeting the right person can change us for the better. The fish guy is her other half, the only one who really has a deeper understanding with her. I think my favorite part was when she bought him a little card with a picture of a guy holding a fish in a bowel and it said something like "your my friend". That part literally made Jasmin and I tear up it was so cute. ALSO THE ACTING IS SO GOOD!!! Especially the girl who plays Eliza, like wow she doesnt even speak for ANY of the movie and her performance Brought me to tears .Anyways this is the now highest rated on here with a 9.5/10. Its just a really good movie. (mr h pls go watch it again and think of it more along the lines of beauty and the beast rather than fish human weird stuff I promise its actually a really good movie and so much more than just pretty)
OH and before anyone goes and watches this its rated R for a reason. Theres nudity and some unconfy scenes. I LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS MOVIE AND I WANT TO GO WATCH IT AGAIN TAKE ALL MY MONEY I LITRALLY LOVE YOU ANYA TAYLOR JOY AND TOMASIN MKENZIE!!!!! Alright now that thats out of the way I give this a good solid 9/10. THE ONLY THING I didn't like was the (spoilers I guess) the ending scene where they added a weird bit of CGI and she was switching back from old lady to young her and it was just out of place. then griffin pointed out that she for sure shouldve been wearing the pink dress at the end when she was sitting in the bed and the building was burning down. (spoilers over). OH I forgot to mention from the very first shot if this film and when the music started playing I just knew it was gonna be great. Okay we talked about this in class but the shot where sandy was dancing and elli kept switching back and fourth was SO COOL. Definily one of my favorite parts in the movie. The costume design better get nominated for something because omg. Every time she had an outfit change my jaw dropped. I think my favorite piece has to be the white coat. Theres this one shot that I loved. it was Ellie and her bf kissing in the rain and it was a very short wide shot of only their heads and the street lights lighting up the rain, thats probably my favorite shot in the movie other than the one of both of them walking down the stairs in the mirror. I loved the music LOVED IT. It fit right into the story perfectly and really made the movie what it is. I also loved the usage of the red neon light to transfer Ellie into her visions. Definitely go see this I would recommend to anyone. Also dont mind it being rated R its really not that bad.
I loved this movie and I don't understand why so many people didn't. I give this a 7/10 it wasn't the best mcu movie but it was still really good. I personally think this is one of the more pretty marvel movies besides doctor strange and also one of the Best marvel CGIs yet. I really liked how they showed the super speed in a way that I haven't seen before. I loved the characters in this and how they introduced a whole new bunch of people. Im still kinda in shock (spoiler) that harry styles is actually in it. Like for some reason it baffles me. that it wasn't a huge inside joke. But I'm really exited to see where his character goes and also this movie made me agree with thanos more than I kinda already did. Going off of that this is why I think thanos is one of the best written villains in the MCU. The only thing I'm questioning is if he knew about the celestials before all of the infinity war and endgame. (spoilers over). Anyways I didn't really like the music, it didn't really capture my attention like the other movies did if that makes sense. Overall I liked this film because of how pretty it is and how it fits into the MCU. The endless questions that this movie brought up make me even more exited for the next stages in the MCU.
Okay I really liked this. The reason I watched it is I saw a tiktok talking about movies that basically revolve around strong female characters and I had seen most of the movies on the list except a few including the craft and Jennifers body (so you know what blog is coming next lol). But I really liked it I feel like it really captured that 90s witch aesthetic and I know with every film I watch I talk about the aestetic but I think a film having a certain aesthetic or trope is really important. Anyways I really liked the beach scene like with the shark, it made me a little sad but also its okay bc it really showed their true powers as witches and how their powers kinda got out of control. I give this a 7/10. I would only watch it during halloween though like this is certainly not a summer movie. Id say its worth a watch!
This movie took me forever to get through and im still not understanding it fully but here we go. I actually liked it. I mean I wouldn't watch it again but it wasn't half bad for it being in black and white and silent. I think its crazy how more si fi this movie is than German expressionist. Yes it still falls under the era and has some of the common theme but I think its certinaly a si fi film. Its actually kinda crazy how well some of the techy looking props and stuff hold up even in todays movies. Like the picture I choose above, we still see tanks and robots and wires and stuff like that in todays films. Im not really going to give this a solid rating I would say in the end its a 5/10. Taking the time period and resources available at the time this movie is pretty good. Its very visually appealing which actually surprised me. The very first scene where the elevator is going down is really cool looking and was a great way to open because it kinda shocked me. I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone my age but I think it might be worth a watch depending on what movies you like. Do I understand much of the plot... eh not really. All I really got was that the rich were above ground and the poor were below the rest was kinda fuzzy.
Ive been wanting to watch this movie ever since Mr. Murray showed us a scene from it in class, but since Disney plus didn't have it quite yet I wasn't able to watch it. So over the weekend I was bored and saw that it was on Disney plus and here we are. Anyways this movie gets a solid 7/10. so so so cute and I just love stop motion films. I feel like movies like this are timeless, stop motion doesn't have a camera quality as much as regular films so you never really can tell when it was made. I also feel like stop motion is becoming a lost art, its soo expensive and takes forever and most of the time they don't make back what they put into the film which is really sad. ah im getting off topic basically I loved this movie. The colors are so bright and orange its so fun. Also I like Wes Andersons style of film and I think it fits really well with the mood of this movie. Am I the only one who cried during this??? I love the humor in this too and its weirdly grown up for being a kids movie. Like when mrs. fox hits mr. fox like that kinda stuff doesnt happen in kids movies. Also I loved the "what the cuss" thing I thought that was so clever. This movie defiantly makes its way over to cheer up movie lists.
This movies been on my watch list for a really long time now. I only saw the first half ish of it and never got around to finishing it. The other day I was just cleaning my room and was trying to think of something that reminded me of fall to watch, something that really got me in a mystery, New England, chili, old books kind of vibe if you know what I mean. Then I remembered that knives out exits. So starting off I loved this movie and would give it an 9/10. You know a movies good when it makes you want to switch your whole career path and become a mystery author with a huge house in NH. Besides that the plot I thought was super good, I mean I didnt even come close to guessing the ending until the end. The cinematography I think was really good, I loved the shot of when ransom was stabbing Martina and the camera kinda went down with them. Also the opening shot of the cloudy mansion with the dogs running I feel like really sets up the aesthetic of the story. The music as well yeah lets talk about it. loved it. its so perfect for the story. Its the perfect movie if you want a September fall movie. its not halloween but its not Christmas and defiantly not summer. its fall just fall. not a scary movie but also not halloween town. its that perfect in-between mystery.
I love Adam Sandler movies so much so me giving this an 8/10 is in a totally different category than something like marriage story or knifes out. Anyways I loved it it kinda reminds me of my old summers when I was a kid and my dads side of the family and we all would go to the shared lake house on Winnipesaukee.
Those summers were some of the best I ever had so watching this made me pretty nostalgic. anyways the comedy is always top tier in these films I love it so much I dont even care what anyone else says these movies are comedy masterpieces. Along with being hilarious they have a pretty good emotional weight to them too, most of the time your really rooting for the main characters and they have some huge character development, I dont know thats my personal opinion. I <3 Adam Sandler. Ive seen midsommar and loved it, I consider it to be a comfort movie because it almost re-sets my brain in a weird way... like it makes me forget everything else thats going on around me if that makes sense. So going into this movie I expected the same things. The same amazing shots, acting, story telling, and odd sence of comfort. This movie however brought me the exact opposite. I dont really get scared but at points in this film I found myself covering my eyes or burying my head into the pillow or sometimes just sitting with my mouth open in shock. Saying that I give this a 8.5/10. Would I watch it again, maybe even alone? Hell no. Was it still amazing? YES!! Now let's get into the technicalities of this. The shots were incredible and unsettling all rolled up into one. I watched this with abby, Madison, and grace and at one point in the movie Ari Aster did this shot where the camera follows the character and flips upside down. Seeing this I yelled "OMG HE DID THE SAME ONE IN MIDSOMMAR". Im not sure what its called but I think its up there in my favorite camera tricks along with the dolly zoom. The acting was just amazing. I feel like the whole cast deserves some kind of awards because the amount of emotion they threw into their characters was just incredible. The story telling was also just sooo good. The foreshadowing with the doll houses and the symbols of the moms cult being everywhere added so much to the story. Its funny because when we finished hereditary we immediately all decided to watch midsommar to kinda forget about what we just watched. OH I almost forgot... THE SCORE!!! WOWZA the music in this film was top notch. The very ending with the tree house music is now such a classic scary movie sound and ive heard it everywhere and didn't even know where it was from. Anyways 100% watch this if you like scary or psychological thrillers because this is definitely top tier in my opinion.
