I decided to just go through the oscar nominated films and the catagory ive seen the most of is the best animated feature so I thought why not just finish it off. So going into this I had no clue what it was about. By the name I assumed it would have something to do with fleeing a country or a situation but i didnt know for sure. When the movie started it says that the names, locations, and faces are altered to protect the identity of those being interviewed. I was really confused until the animated interview started. Then it hit that the whole reason this is animated at all is to protect those who are telling their story. This made the film hit that much harder. Like it really makes you think all the way through that these people are still not safe from things that happend in their childhood. This story is beautiufully told and keeps you ingaged throughout the whole thing. I dont think ive ever seen an animated documentary which was really new and different. Ive also never seen a movie that tells such a horrible story thats so real. All of this actually happend and yes we hear about this on the news and hear the politics about it but hearing it from someone who has been through it is very eye opeining. Theres so many times where you just stop and think that somewhere in the world someone is going through the same thing right now. That someone is trying to come to a different country in hopes for a better life and even traffiking themselves to do it. Like yes we hear about traffiking and how horrible it is but like i said hearing it from someones prespective thats been through it is so sad. I really liked how they switched the story from past to present and how everything that happend in his childhood still follows him. Another thing about this movie is that they dont shy away from how horrible humans can be towards eachother. Every scene you saw they didnt cut away or try to brush it off to get to the next part. They make you stay and watch. In the end of the movie when they bought a house and were happy and we have an animated shot of the mountians outside their home which switches to a real shot. This I think is something that makes the whole story real. It reminds you that everything you just watched isnt fake or fabricated. These things happened to a real family and that much worse is still going on. It almost checks you back into reality and brings you back. I watched this at work and not gonna lie I definitly had to keep myself from tearing up. I think this movie deserves best animated feature. Its amazingly told, emotional, and brings a new view to an ongoing situation for so many people. While I do love luca and woud love to see it get some attention I think this deserves it more. With that being said Flee has my vote. I give this movie a 10/10. I dont see anythign wrong with it and I think its something everyone needs to see.
